The house
A waterfront house in Ikoyi, lived in since 1974 and let since 2023.
What was done
Two years of it. The roof went back on in the original profile, the terrazzo was ground and sealed rather than covered, and the windows were rebuilt to the size the architect drew. The kitchen is new and the trees are not.
The street
Quiet, residential, and older than most of Ikoyi. Bread from the place on Gerrard before nine. The water at the end of the garden goes out to the lagoon.
Who you will meet
Tunde runs the house and answers the phone. Grace cooks if you ask her to, and knows what is good at the market that week.
The rules
- Music off at 11. The neighbours are the reason this house is still quiet.
- No parties in the rooms upstairs. The terrace is where the noise is allowed to be.
- Shoes off on the terrazzo, please. It is 50 years old and it shows every scuff.
- Smoking outside, and not in the garden beds.
