Sixty knobs, one signal, and an argument about control
A control surface with far more knobs than it needs, built to find out where the useful number actually is.

A deliberately excessive control surface: sixty identical potentiometers, all feeding one output. The question was whether more direct control makes an instrument better or merely heavier.
It does not. Past about twelve, people stop forming a mental model and start turning things at random. The finished piece keeps all sixty, because the point is the demonstration.
Technically it is a lesson in multiplexing and noise. Sixty analogue reads on one board means four multiplexers and a great deal of care about grounding, and the first version picked up the room lights.
The enclosure was cut in three parts because it did not fit the bed.
