I am a primary school teacher in Lagos. After school hours I teach a small number of children one to one, in their own homes, with a parent or guardian there.
I have been a primary school teacher for nine years, all of it in Lagos, mostly in Primary 2 and Primary 5. I still teach full time. This is not a business I am building; it is a small number of children I teach after school because I am good at it and I like it.

When a child finishes something they are pleased with, I photograph it before it goes into their bag, and with the family's permission a few of those go up here.
Nothing goes up without the child and the parent agreeing. First name and class only, never a surname, never a school, and never a photograph of a child, only of the work.
Questions parents ask
In your home, always. I do not teach children at my house. There is a whole page on how I keep lessons safe, and it is worth two minutes.
Yes. A parent, a guardian, an older relative, someone in the house, with the door of the room open. If nobody can be there, we move the lesson rather than go ahead.
Whenever you like, without asking. For the first lesson I would prefer it.
Usually not. A term is not long, and starting a child on lessons while they are exhausted at the end of the school year rarely works. September is often the better time.
Yes, and it helps me a great deal. Teachers are generally glad, and I would rather work with what the class is doing than across it.
I would want to know what the 24th child actually cannot do before promising anything about the position. Class position moves when the understanding moves, and it moves in that order.
That is worth listening to. Let them sit through the free first lesson and decide afterwards. A child who has been marched into lessons will learn nothing.
For a specific gap, a term. For a child who has lost confidence, two. If someone tells you six weeks, be careful.
Not for primary age, and not with the power situation. Younger children need to be in the room.
A police character certificate, my ID, and the two head teachers I have worked under. Handed over at the first lesson, unasked.
