Questions parents ask

Where do lessons happen? In your home, always. I do not teach children at my house. There is a whole page on how I keep lessons safe, and it is worth two minutes.

Does someone need to be at home? Yes. A parent, a guardian, an older relative, someone in the house, with the door of the room open. If nobody can be there, we move the lesson rather than go ahead.

Can I sit in on the lesson? Whenever you like, without asking. For the first lesson I would prefer it.

Will my child fall further behind if we wait until next term? Usually not. A term is not long, and starting a child on lessons while they are exhausted at the end of the school year rarely works. September is often the better time.

Should I tell the school? Yes, and it helps me a great deal. Teachers are generally glad, and I would rather work with what the class is doing than across it.

My child came 24th in the class. How quickly can you fix it? I would want to know what the 24th child actually cannot do before promising anything about the position. Class position moves when the understanding moves, and it moves in that order.

My child says they do not want lessons. That is worth listening to. Let them sit through the free first lesson and decide afterwards. A child who has been marched into lessons will learn nothing.

How long will it take? For a specific gap, a term. For a child who has lost confidence, two. If someone tells you six weeks, be careful.

Do you teach online? Not for primary age, and not with the power situation. Younger children need to be in the room.

What about references? A police character certificate, my ID, and the two head teachers I have worked under. Handed over at the first lesson, unasked.
