Term exams

Termly exams matter more to Lagos parents than almost anything else on this page, so let me be useful about them rather than sniffy.

Most of what separates children in a primary term exam is not ability. It is knowing the format, reading the question properly, and not panicking in the first ten minutes. Those three things are teachable in a few weeks.

What I will not do is coach a child through past questions they do not understand so that the position on the report improves. That buys you one term and costs you the next three.

If your child is anxious about exams, say so when you get in touch. That is a different piece of work from the maths, and it is often the more important one.
